A group of Afghan journalists in exile has launched the news agency Baztab-e No in Istanbul, Turkey, marking a significant step in providing independent reporting on Afghanistan and regional affairs.

The founders of Baztab-e No held a formal ceremony to announce the launch of the media outlet, describing it as a “free and independent” platform committed to delivering reliable news. The event also featured the presence of Ariana Saeed, a renowned Afghan artist and prominent supporter of women’s rights and civil society initiatives. Her participation highlighted the outlet’s commitment to representing diverse voices and promoting inclusion in Afghan media.

A New Platform for Afghan Voices Abroad

The agency aims to provide a voice for Afghan citizens and diaspora communities, highlighting social, political, and humanitarian issues that may not be fully covered in local media. The founders emphasized that press freedom, integrity, and impartial reporting are at the core of their mission.

“Through Baztab-e No, we hope to inform both domestic and international audiences about events in Afghanistan without fear or censorship,” said the founders in their statement.

Challenges and the Importance of Exile Media

Journalists operating from exile face unique challenges, including maintaining accurate reporting while ensuring the safety of sources in Afghanistan. The launch of Baztab-e No reflects broader efforts by Afghan journalists abroad to continue their work despite ongoing political instability and security threats in their home country.

Experts say that exile media plays a crucial role in holding governments accountable, supporting transparency, and providing credible information in regions where press freedom is restricted.
