Chinese Embassy warns citizens to evacuate Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region after security incidents on December 7, 2026

January 9, 2026

China has issued a renewed and urgent security warning to its citizens and companies operating near the Afghanistan–Tajikistan border, calling on them to evacuate the area as soon as possible due to a deteriorating security situation.

In a statement released on January 7, the Chinese Embassy in Afghanistan said the security environment in the border region has become “complex and severe,” citing a series of attacks on Chinese nationals in November that caused significant casualties.

The embassy also warned that further attacks targeting Chinese companies and citizens cannot be ruled out.

The advisory follows several recent security incidents involving gold mining companies in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan and Takhar provinces, where multiple people were killed or injured and heavy machinery and equipment were destroyed.

The embassy urged Chinese enterprises and citizens in the affected areas to closely monitor the security situation, take concrete steps to strengthen their security precautions, and arrange an orderly evacuation as soon as possible.

It advised that in case of any suspicious activity or emergency, people should immediately report to local police and contact the Chinese Embassy.

The statement also shared emergency contact details, including Afghanistan’s emergency number 119, China’s 24-hour consular protection hotlines +86-10-12308 and +86-10-65612308, and the Chinese Embassy’s local hotline +93 (0) 700483276.
