The governments of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have announced new measures to conserve energy, introducing early closing times for markets, restaurants, and public activities. The steps are part of efforts to reduce electricity use and manage rising demand.
In Balochistan, officials have directed all markets and shopping centers to close by 8:00 pm. However, essential services such as pharmacies, bakeries, and tandoors are exempt from these restrictions. Authorities said this will help balance energy needs while keeping basic services available to the public.
Meanwhile, the government has also set new limits for social and business events. Wedding halls, banquet halls, hotels, and restaurants must close by 10:00 pm. Officials believe these steps will reduce late-night electricity consumption, which often puts extra pressure on the power system.
At the same time, strict enforcement has been ordered. District administrations and law enforcement agencies have been told to ensure full compliance. Authorities have warned that legal action will be taken against those who do not follow the rules.
Similarly, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has introduced comparable measures with slight differences in timing. Markets, shopping plazas, and commercial activities in divisional headquarters must close by 9:00 pm. In other districts, the closing time is set at 8:00 pm. Night-time sports activities have also been included in these restrictions.
As a result, these changes are expected to affect daily routines, especially for businesses and event organizers. However, officials say the measures are necessary to address energy challenges and ensure stability in power supply.
Both provincial governments have made it clear that these rules will be closely monitored. The move reflects a broader push to promote energy conservation and responsible use of electricity across the country.
