June 12,2025: A flight crash shook Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday evening. A London-bound Air India flight crashed during take-off, sparking immediate panic and a massive emergency response.

The incident happened around 6:30 PM. According to officials, the aircraft veered off the runway during what should have been a routine departure. As a result, thick smoke and loud noise engulfed the area.

Soon after the crash, the airport activated emergency protocols. Firefighters from five city divisions rushed to the site. “Fire control efforts are ongoing as a safety measure,” said an officer from Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services.

At the time of the crash, the aircraft was carrying 242 passengers. Although officials have not confirmed injuries, local reports indicate several people sustained wounds during the crash.

Shockwaves Beyond the Airport

Meanwhile, nearby residents in Meghani Nagar reported hearing a blast. “We saw dark smoke rising,” shared one eyewitness. Some claimed the plane may have struck part of the neighborhood, although this remains unconfirmed.

Families of passengers quickly gathered at the airport and nearby hospitals. Many anxiously searched for updates, while others pleaded for help from airline officials.

In response to the incident, airport authorities began an internal inquiry. Additionally, engineers started a technical inspection of the damaged aircraft. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also confirmed it will conduct an independent investigation.

Disruption, Distress, and Delays

Because of the crash, flight schedules at the airport suffered major disruptions. Some flights were delayed, while others had to be diverted.

So far, Air India has not released an official statement. However, sources say the airline is preparing a response once more details are available.

Clearly, the incident has raised serious questions about runway safety and aircraft conditions. Aviation analysts are urging a detailed review.

On the ground, emergency teams remain active. They are continuing rescue work, supporting passengers, and coordinating with city services.

In the end, the flight crash has left Ahmedabad stunned. What started as a routine journey turned into a terrifying ordeal for hundreds—one that may lead to sweeping safety reforms in India’s aviation sector.
