Hangu: Pakistani security forces successfully stopped a large infiltration attempt by more than 100 militants linked to Fitna al Khawarij in the district of Hangu. The operation was carried out over several days and involved multiple security agencies working together.

Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, praised the bravery and professionalism of police officers and security personnel who took part in the operation.

According to officials, the militants tried to enter different areas of Hangu, including Zargari, Shinawari, and Naryab, through the difficult mountainous regions of Orakzai district. They also attempted to surround several border checkpoints.

However, security forces responded quickly. Hangu Police, the Counter Terrorism Department, Frontier Corps, and Pakistan Army units launched a strong counter operation and stopped the militants from advancing further.

Heavy Losses Reported During Three Days of Fighting

The clashes continued for three days and caused heavy losses to the militant group. Local residents said the militants were forced to retreat while carrying their dead and injured members back with them.

Meanwhile, mortar shells fired during the fighting landed in civilian areas. As a result, six civilians lost their lives and 13 others were injured. The injured were moved to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Following the operation, security officials declared schools, public property, and nearby mountain areas fully cleared of militants.

In addition, IG Zulfiqar Hameed announced cash rewards and certificates of appreciation for members of Hangu Police, the Counter Terrorism Department, Elite Force, and Al-Buraq Force who participated in the mission.

He said the police and security forces remain fully capable of defeating militant threats in the region. He also made it clear that operations against Fitna al Khawarij will continue until the group is completely eliminated.
