The historic peace talks between the United States and Iran held in Islamabad have caused political upheaval in the region, resulting in strong diplomatic unease in New Delhi. Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has expressed serious anger over Pakistan’s growing diplomatic influence and its mediation role at the international level.
According to reports, during an all-party meeting on the Middle East crisis, when Indian opposition parties raised concerns about Pakistan’s successful mediation between the United States and Iran, Dr. Jaishankar used unexpectedly strong and unparliamentary language. He responded with sharp remarks regarding Pakistan’s diplomatic achievements, which political observers have described as a sign of Indian diplomatic frustration.
Political and diplomatic experts say that the decade-long rule of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has pushed India into a position of international isolation, where it no longer has an active role in major regional peace negotiations. Analysts note that at a time when Pakistan has succeeded in bringing two major global powers to the negotiating table, India neither has a seat nor any influence in this important diplomatic process.
Critics have described the Indian Foreign Minister’s recent statement as “contrary to diplomatic etiquette,” saying that after losing its position in global politics, India has now become limited to allegations and harsh rhetoric. Analysts claim that Pakistan’s emergence as a host and mediator is proving to be a major strategic setback for New Delhi.
