Islamabad – Pakistani intelligence agencies have verified the arrest of Sultan Aziz Azam, a senior affiliate and media head of the terrorist organization ISIS-K, in a major step towards ensuring the safety of the region.

The arrest of the ISIS-K Spokesperson in a targeted raid is a significant loss to the capabilities of the group to propagate its ideas and find new followers.

Former journalist Azam was the voice of the organization since 2015. He became notoriously famous after he claimed to have carried out the devastating suicide bombing at Kabul Airport in the year 2021 that killed more than 180 people.

Over the years, he leveraged his media capabilities to increase the influence of the group with the Al-Azaim Foundation, which is now closed down after his arrest.

A Blow to the Propaganda Machine

A recent United Nations report indicated that the ISIS-K Spokesman Arrested in May 2025 has considerably destabilized the global structure of the group. The authorities have succeeded in silencing one of the most influential propaganda outlets of the group, Voice of Khorasan, by neutralizing important ideological leaders such as Azam.

This interference complicates the future attack coordination and planning of the group to a large degree.

Experts consider that destroying the media wing is as important as battlefield victories. Azam did not merely report on violence; he defended it, even to the point of the tragic murder of three female journalists in 2021.

His arrest, as well as other top leaders such as Abu Yasser Al-Turki, has put the operational strength of the organization in a state.

Strengthening Regional Peace

It is especially interesting to note that the capture happened after Azam had been announced dead already in 2018, reported by Voice of America.

The continuity of the intelligence activities is shown by his recent visit and subsequent arrest. As the ISIS-K Spokesman was arrested, the reported number of active fighters in the area is declining, and some terror schemes were prevented successfully.
