Islamabad has been placed on a high security alert ahead of the second round of US-Iran talks, with authorities issuing a “red alert” across the federal capital. In view of the arrival of foreign delegations, a total of 18,000 personnel from Islamabad Police, Punjab Police, Rangers, and Frontier Corps have been deployed. Security has also been tightened in Rawalpindi to prevent any untoward incident.

Red Zone Secured

Authorities have sealed off the Red Zone and extended Red Zone areas for all types of traffic. Entry of heavy vehicles into the city has been banned, while the metro bus service between the twin cities has also been suspended. Visiting delegations are being accommodated in a private hotel within the Red Zone, where a full security cordon has been established.

Deployment of Rangers and Snipers

Under the security plan, Rangers and snipers have been positioned on rooftops of key buildings along the routes from Nur Khan Air Base and Islamabad Airport to the Red Zone. Green belts and service roads along the designated routes have been cleared, while joint checkpoints by the Pakistan Army and Islamabad Police are conducting strict security checks.

Strict Code of Conduct for Personnel

Strict instructions have been issued for all deployed security officials. Personnel are required to use anti-riot gear and are not permitted to use mobile phones during duty. An additional 7,000 personnel from 10 districts of Punjab have also arrived in Islamabad to ensure a peaceful environment for the internationally significant talks.
