Islamabad Police Launch Comprehensive Muharram Security Plan

high-level meeting chaired by Inspector General (IG) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi for Muharram

June 19, 2025

Islamabad – June 19, 2025: The Islamabad Police have initiated detailed security arrangements for Muharram following a high-level meeting chaired by Inspector General (IG) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. The session, held at the Police Headquarters, included DIGs, SSPs, SPs, SDPOs, and SHOs from across the district.

During the meeting, each officer presented a briefing on the preparations being made for processions, majalis, and the protection of Imambargahs in their respective zones. The IG emphasized the urgency of initiating field-level coordination.

As a result, officers have been directed to begin community outreach. They will engage with Imambargah administrators and scout leaders to ensure smooth event management. In addition, senior officers will inspect procession routes and majalis locations to assess vulnerabilities.

The IG instructed that all bushes and vegetation along procession routes be cleared. This preventive step is aimed at eliminating potential hiding spots or risks. Moreover, scout groups will be trained to assist in managing crowds and maintaining discipline.

Surveillance and Rapid Response Plans

The IG further directed police to conduct search operations and intelligence-based raids in sensitive areas. These operations will be carried out across Islamabad in the days leading up to Muharram.

To enhance security arrangements, a special control room will be set up at the Safe City headquarters. This hub will allow real-time surveillance and coordination throughout the city.

In addition, modern tools such as drones and high-resolution cameras will be used to monitor processions and gathering points. These technologies will help law enforcement quickly identify and respond to any suspicious activity.

Officials have also been asked to conduct daily briefings with field personnel. These sessions will help officers stay alert and up-to-date with any evolving threats or logistical needs.

Importantly, the IG highlighted that all officers must remain visible and accessible during Muharram. Their presence will help reassure citizens and ensure swift action if necessary.

Ensuring Peace Through Muharram

The Islamabad Police are fully mobilized to enforce strong security arrangements during Muharram. From early surveillance to community coordination, each measure reflects a proactive approach.

With regular briefings, tech-based monitoring, and district-wide operations in place, the force aims to ensure a peaceful and safe environment for all participants.
