Israel’s military has announced that it will actively pursue Iran’s newly appointed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, following an airstrike that killed the country’s national security chief, Ali Larijani.

Larijani’s death is being described as a significant setback for Iran, coming less than three weeks after the martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in previous US -Israeli strikes that escalated tensions in the Middle East.

The airstrike follows ongoing confrontations in the region, including Iran’s declaration that shipping through the Strait of Hormuz will not return to normal, and warnings from former US President Donald Trump criticizing allies for not assisting in the safe passage of oil tankers.

In response, Tehran has called on citizens across the country to rally in solidarity and demonstrate defiance against what it calls “enemy plots.”

Israel’s military, however, has vowed to hold Iran accountable for the strikes and stated that Mojtaba Khamenei, the late Ayatollah’s son and the new supreme leader, will also be a target. Brigadier General Effie Defrin told reporters, “We don’t know about Mojtaba Khamenei, we don’t hear him, we don’t see him, but I can tell you one thing: we will track him down, find him, and neutralize him.”

The development underscores rising tensions in the region, highlighting the ongoing risks of escalation between Israel and Iran, and raising international concern about the stability of the Middle East.
