The Government of Pakistan has formally acknowledged the extraordinary sacrifice of brave citizen Liaqat Shaheed, who gave his life near Kohat while saving hundreds of others. On the special recommendation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the President of Pakistan has approved the award of Sitara-e-Shujaat, the country’s second-highest civilian award for bravery, to Liaqat Shaheed, son of Karim Elahi.

Extraordinary Act of Courage

The incident took place near a sensitive checkpoint in the border area of Jand and Khushal Garh Bridge between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A suspicious individual was observed moving towards the checkpoint when local resident Liaqat showed exceptional courage by stopping him and attempting to question him.

Fearing arrest, the suspected attacker detonated himself in an explosion. As a result, Liaqat Shaheed was martyred on the spot, while the attacker was also killed.

Preventing a Major Tragedy

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the martyr, stating that Liaqat acted as a responsible citizen and prevented a potentially devastating attack. Officials said that had he not intervened in time, the attacker could have targeted the checkpoint or nearby civilian areas, leading to heavy casualties.

The Prime Minister said Liaqat Shaheed’s sacrifice, courage, and patriotism would always be remembered as a symbol of the nation’s resolve against terrorism.

Family Sent to Receive National Honour

Liaqat Shaheed’s family, including his mother, son, and brother, have departed for Islamabad to receive the national award. The government has provided full official protocol to the family during their journey.

An Assistant Commissioner from Jand is accompanying the convoy to oversee arrangements and ensure smooth coordination.

Special Security Arrangements

For the safety and facilitation of the bereaved family, a special contingent of the Elite Force has also been deployed. Authorities have been instructed to ensure that no inconvenience is faced by the family during travel and stay in the capital.

The martyrdom of Liaqat Shaheed has been widely praised at the local level, with citizens and officials describing the government’s decision as a well-deserved recognition of true national heroism.
