The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), responsible for spreading unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has claimed an expansion of its network, while security forces have killed a wanted militant during an operation in the border area of Bannu and North Waziristan.

In a statement released to the media, TTP spokesman Mohammad Khorasani claimed that two groups from Lower Dir have formally joined the organization. The groups are reportedly led by commanders Talha and Sharifullah, who previously operated independently and at times carried out subversive activities in coordination with Jamaat-ul-Ahrar.

According to the statement, the commanders pledged allegiance to TTP chief Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud, referring to it as “Hijrat and Jihad.”

Security Forces’ Operation

On the other hand, security agencies achieved a significant success in their ongoing counterterrorism campaign. A targeted operation in the border region of Bannu and North Waziristan resulted in the killing of a dangerous militant identified as Mudassar Laron.

Police sources said the slain militant was wanted in multiple serious cases, including attacks on police stations and other major criminal incidents.

Security Assessment

Security experts say that claims of new group alignments with TTP are an attempt to project strength amid growing pressure. However, they add that continued operations by security forces are steadily weakening the group’s network on the ground.
