Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has announced that the Kashmir Institute of Cardiology in Mirpur will be upgraded into a full international-standard heart hospital. The move is part of the government’s wider plan to improve public health services across the region.
Speaking to a group of journalists in Muzaffarabad, the Prime Minister said his recent visit to Mirpur focused on solving long-standing public issues rather than political activity. He stressed that better healthcare is a top priority for his government.
Major Boost in Health Budget and Emergency Services
To begin with, the Prime Minister shared key details of new development steps. He said the cardiology center’s budget has been increased from 6 million rupees to 60 million rupees. Alongside this, the cath lab has been made fully operational, which will help heart patients receive timely treatment.
Meanwhile, the government has also allocated 20 million rupees for emergency services at DHQ Hospital Mirpur. This funding aims to improve urgent care facilities and reduce pressure on patients and staff.
Clean Kashmir Plan and Development Projects Announced
In addition, the Prime Minister said work is underway to grant the cardiology center the status of a separate and dedicated heart hospital. He also announced the launch of a 235 million rupee water supply project for Khark village, calling it an important step for local residents.
Looking ahead, he revealed plans to introduce a “Clean Kashmir” program inspired by Punjab’s model. Due to limited time, the program will begin on a smaller scale. At the same time, a solid waste management project for Muzaffarabad has been approved.
Furthermore, progress is being made to convert the State Bank of AJK into a scheduled bank with funds of 10 billion rupees. The Prime Minister assured that drinking water shortages and traffic problems in Mirpur will be addressed on a priority basis.
He concluded by saying that despite a short time in office, his government is moving quickly on major projects and aims to meet as many targets as possible before the 2026 elections.
