Senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Syed Mustafa Kamal has accused MQM founder Altaf Hussain of orchestrating the murder of party co-founder Dr Imran Farooq while under the influence of alcohol.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Kamal alleged that Dr Farooq’s killing in London in 2010 was carried out as a “gift” on Altaf Hussain’s birthday.
He claimed that Altaf Hussain told his workers in Pakistan that Dr Farooq was creating problems, after which they travelled to London and murdered him.
Kamal said he had remained silent for the past two years but decided to speak out after Hussain accused MQM-P and the Pak-Sarzameen Party of sheltering the killers.
He added that he possesses evidence against those involved and is ready to cooperate fully with investigators to ensure justice.
The federal minister also criticized the MQM founder for creating controversy over the recent death of Dr Farooq’s widow, Shumaila Imran Farooq, who passed away in London after battling serious illness.
He alleged that donations were collected worldwide in her name but were misused.
Dr Imran Farooq, the first secretary general of MQM, was found stabbed to death near the party’s London office on September 16, 2010.
Kamal said Scotland Yard was aware of the suspects and that Farooq’s children were kept in hiding for days after the murder.
“This man used to order murders and then mourn the same,” Kamal said, urging Farooq’s children to pursue legal action.
