Islamabad – Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Asif, issued a firm message to the Afghan Taliban regime, stating that the situation has escalated into “open conflict” between the two sides.
In a post on social media, Minister Asif criticized the Taliban for failing to maintain peace and stability in Afghanistan following the withdrawal of NATO forces. He expressed that the international community had expected the Taliban to focus on the welfare of the Afghan people and regional security, but instead, they turned Afghanistan into a hub for extremist activities.
“Taliban have gathered terrorists from across the world on Afghan soil, and have begun exporting terrorism beyond their borders,” Asif wrote. “They have deprived their own citizens of fundamental human rights, especially women, stripping them of the rights Islam guarantees.”
He emphasized that Pakistan made repeated efforts, both directly and through diplomatic channels with friendly countries, to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan. Despite these efforts, the Taliban, according to the minister, have acted as proxies for India, undermining regional security.
“Today, when Pakistan faces direct aggression, our armed forces are responding decisively and effectively,” the minister added. He praised the military for its swift and targeted operations against those responsible for cross-border attacks and emphasized that Pakistan will continue to defend its citizens and sovereignty.
Minister Asif’s statement highlights growing tensions along Pakistan’s western border and underscores Islamabad’s frustration with the Taliban’s failure to curb terrorist activities emanating from Afghan territory. The message also reflects Pakistan’s resolve to hold the Taliban accountable while safeguarding regional peace and security.
This declaration signals a significant escalation in Pakistan-Afghan Taliban relations, with implications for cross-border security, counterterrorism efforts, and regional diplomacy.
