The Pakistan–Afghanistan border has once again become tense, with fresh statements and reports of clashes adding to growing concerns in the region. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, said Afghan soil would not be allowed to be used against any country. He stressed that Afghanistan wants peace and stability in the region, but his statement contradicts with the latest UN reports which called Afghanistan as a terrorism hub.
At the same time, Mujahid rejected Pakistan’s accusations, saying Islamabad’s internal security challenges are its own issue and should not be blamed on Afghanistan. He also termed alleged airspace violations and bombing incidents as unacceptable. However, he maintained that the Afghan side still prefers dialogue to resolve disputes.
Clashes Reported Along the Border
Meanwhile, the situation on the ground appears tense. Khost provincial authorities’ spokesman Mustaghfir Gurbaz claimed that Afghan forces have launched fresh retaliatory actions against Pakistani posts in the districts of Zazi Maidan, Ali Sher, and Trezai. According to him, these moves were taken in response to recent border developments.
In addition, local Pakistani sources have confirmed heavy firing in several border areas. Residents on both sides have reported hearing sustained gunfire, raising fears of a wider escalation if the situation is not controlled.
Strong Warnings and Diplomatic Efforts
At the same time, a strong warning has come from Sirajuddin Haqqani, who cautioned Islamabad that Afghan forces have shown restraint so far. He added that without this restraint, the situation could have become far more serious.
Following reports of clashes around Khost and Waziristan, anxiety has spread across the region. Even so, officials say diplomatic contacts are ongoing. Both sides appear to be weighing their next steps carefully, as efforts continue behind the scenes to calm tensions and prevent the situation from spiraling further.
