Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar briefed resident heads of diplomatic missions in Islamabad on the latest developments in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations and the broader Middle East situation. He highlighted Pakistan’s sustained restraint and efforts to maintain positive engagement with the Taliban-led Afghan regime over the past four years.

Senator Dar pointed out that despite repeated diplomatic outreach, the Afghan authorities have failed to address Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns. Recently, Afghan forces carried out a coordinated armed attack along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. In response, Pakistan undertook precise and measured operations to counter terrorism originating from Afghan soil. These actions, he emphasized, are necessary to protect Pakistan’s citizens and maintain stability in the border regions.

In addition to border concerns, Senator Dar expressed condolences over the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader of Iran. He stressed the importance of restraint and diplomacy in resolving tensions in the Middle East, particularly after recent hostilities in Iran and the Gulf region. Pakistan, he noted, advocates de-escalation and constructive dialogue to restore peace and prevent further instability.

The minister also highlighted Pakistan’s consistent approach, defending national security while promoting regional harmony. He underscored that Pakistan’s actions are targeted against threats and terrorism, not against the people of Afghanistan. The briefing further emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to bilateral engagement with Afghanistan, encouraging cooperation on security and intelligence matters.

Senator Dar’s address served to reassure diplomatic representatives that Pakistan seeks a balance between safeguarding its borders and supporting peaceful regional relations. He reinforced that Pakistan’s military actions are defensive, aimed at preventing terrorism and maintaining law and order. Meanwhile, the country continues to call on all parties in the region to exercise restraint, respect sovereignty, and prioritize dialogue over confrontation.

Pakistan’s stance, as conveyed in the briefing, reflects a dual approach, firm defense against cross-border threats and active promotion of peace and stability in both Afghanistan and the wider Middle East.
