Islamabad has called on both the United States and Iran to extend the current ceasefire and give diplomacy more time to work. The appeal was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar during a recent meeting with the US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker.

According to the Foreign Office, the meeting focused on the growing tensions in the region and possible ways to reduce risks. Ishaq Dar stressed that Pakistan supports peace and stability in the region. He said dialogue is the only practical way forward when tensions rise between countries.

In addition, Dar highlighted the importance of direct communication between Tehran and Washington. He said misunderstandings can only be reduced if both sides talk to each other directly. This, he added, could help prevent further escalation and build trust.

US Praises Pakistan’s Role in Regional Stability

Meanwhile, the US diplomat Natalie Baker appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to support peace in the region. She acknowledged Pakistan’s positive role in encouraging dialogue and reducing tensions through diplomatic engagement.

At the same time, the meeting took place during a period of uncertainty in the region, especially after recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz and strong statements from US leadership. These factors have raised concerns about further instability.

Furthermore, officials noted that Pakistan is actively engaging with different sides to support peaceful solutions. Islamabad has also shown willingness to facilitate diplomatic efforts if needed, reflecting its long standing position of balanced foreign policy.

In conclusion, analysts believe Pakistan’s call for extending the ceasefire reflects its desire to avoid further conflict in the region. They say Islamabad is trying to position itself as a mediator that can support dialogue between Iran and the United States. This approach, they add, strengthens Pakistan’s diplomatic relevance on the global stage.
