Pakistan Rejects Somaliland Recognition to Support Somalia Unity

December 27, 2025

Islamabad – Pakistan has strongly rejected any attempt to undermine Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, saying that Israel’s announcement to recognize the independence of Somalia’s so-called “Somaliland” is a violation of international law.

A statement issued by the Foreign Office spokesperson on Saturday said that such illegal and provocative actions not only threaten the peace and stability of the brotherly country of Somalia but also harm the peace and security of the entire region.

The international community should reject such actions and prevent Israel from undermining ongoing efforts for peace and stability in the region.

Pakistan reiterates its full support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia and will continue to support all efforts for lasting peace and stability in the country.

The statement reiterated in unequivocal terms that Pakistan completely rejects any move to forcibly evict the Palestinians from their land in any way and will continue its unwavering support for the just struggle of the Palestinian people for their right to self-determination.

It also reiterated its strong support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Israel’s announcement of recognition of Somaliland

Earlier, Israel became the first country in the world to officially recognize the breakaway region of Somalia, ‘Somaliland’, as an independent country.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that “Israel will immediately expand cooperation in the agricultural sector, health, and technology.” Somaliland President Abdulrahman Mohamed Abdullahi called the development a “historic moment.”

According to experts, Israel’s recognition could encourage other countries to do the same, which would increase Somaliland’s diplomatic status and access to international markets.

On the other hand, Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Berri strongly rejected the move, saying that his country considers it a “deliberate attack” on its sovereignty.
