Kohat – The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has reported a big breakthrough in the Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in a major step towards national self-reliance.
On Thursday, the company announced a large oil and gas discovery in the Baragzai X-1 well in the Nashpa block.
This discovery is being celebrated as an important addition to the Indigenous Energy Resources of Pakistan and is a much-needed addition to the local supply in Pakistan, which faces the high cost of imported fuel.
Technical Success in the Nashpa Block
This was discovered following the drilling process to the depth of 5,170 meters, where engineers discovered a 187-meter oil deposit.
First-time trials are very encouraging, with a daily yield of 4,100 barrels of oil and 10.5 million cubic feet of gas.
Analysts think that such an effort to develop Pakistan in the form of Indigenous Energy Resources will aid in stabilizing the local market.
This site is operated by OGDCL with a 65 percent stake and in partnership with other companies such as Pakistan Petroleum Limited and Government Holdings Private Limited to get this wealth to the surface.
Expanding the Search for Fuel
This is not the first occasion when Baragzai region revealed its potential. In early December 2025, a nearby well started to generate minor but noticeable portions of power, which provided the staff with the confidence to penetrate deeper.
These achievements have been part of bigger plans to exploit the Indigenous Energy Resources of Pakistan more vigorously.
Looking Toward a Shale Future
In addition to conventional drilling, the company is rapidly accelerating a “shale program” by the year 2026-27. This includes the transition to five or six wells rather than the single test wells, which may one day escalate into hundreds of wells throughout the whole country.
The government expects to generate additional employment opportunities, reduce the energy expenses of families, and decrease overdependence on foreign oil by taking Indigenous Energy Resources in Pakistan as its top priority.
Provided with the success of these technical programs, they may revolutionize the energy situation in the country for decades to come.
