Peshawar, June 19, 2025 — Pre-monsoon rain alert in KP: In a significant move, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a pre-monsoon rain alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, effective from Thursday, June 20, 2025. The authority forecasts widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds that will affect most districts intermittently until Monday.

Widespread Weather Disturbance to Grip KP

PDMA’s latest advisory confirms that several districts, including Upper and Lower Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, Buner, Kolai Palas, Torghar, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, North and South Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, Kohat, Hangu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, and Tank—will likely experience the impact.

Moreover, PDMA has warned of potential heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and strong winds that could trigger sudden urban flooding, block roads, and disrupt daily life particularly in mountainous and vulnerable regions.

Local Authorities Directed to Ensure Preparedness

To tackle possible emergencies, PDMA has directed all district administrations to stay on high alert. Authorities must ensure that heavy and light machinery remains available and ready for deployment. Additionally, PDMA has instructed restoration teams to remain on standby to clear any blocked routes and provide alternate pathways where needed.

Furthermore, the authority has emphasized the need to communicate weather warnings in local languages, especially in sensitive districts, to ensure residents and travelers receive timely and clear instructions.

Public Advisory and Safety Guidelines for Tourists

PDMA strongly urges the public to avoid risky areas such as damaged buildings, hanging electric wires, signboards, and billboards during the rainfall. It also advises farmers to schedule agricultural activities in line with the weather forecast.

Meanwhile, tourists and residents in high-altitude regions must remain cautious, keep track of updated forecasts, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

To bolster its response, PDMA has fully activated its Emergency Operation Center, which will function around the clock. Travelers heading toward tourist spots should contact the PDMA helpline to obtain real-time updates on weather and road conditions.
