The planned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf rally in Mardan is facing uncertainty after reports emerged that opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai is unlikely to attend. According to party sources, he is unhappy with the leadership for not taking him into confidence regarding key decisions.
In particular, Achakzai was reportedly not consulted about the rally’s preparation and final date. This has created tension within the party ranks. Sources say the rally date was decided by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, which further added to concerns within the leadership circle.
Meanwhile, PTI insiders claim that party founder Imran Khan had earlier given Achakzai a central role in organizing public gatherings and protest activities. However, recent decisions without his input have created visible disagreements.
As a result, trust issues have started to surface, even though the party is trying to maintain unity ahead of an important political event.
Efforts to Resolve Dispute Ahead of Key Political Gathering
Despite the growing tension, efforts are underway to resolve the issue. Party leader Aatif Khan reportedly contacted Mahmood Achakzai and invited him to attend the Mardan rally. However, Achakzai has not yet confirmed his participation.
On the other hand, Provincial Minister Meena Khan has said that matters will be handled through consultation with Achakzai. He also clarified that instructions regarding the rally were issued by PTI founder Imran Khan, showing that the event still has central backing.
Furthermore, party officials believe that internal differences can be managed before the rally takes place. They are trying to avoid any public display of division that could weaken the party’s message.
The Mardan rally is considered an important event in PTI’s current political campaign. Therefore, the possible absence of a senior alliance figure is being closely watched. Analysts suggest that while such disagreements are not unusual in politics, timing is sensitive, and unity is important for public perception.
In conclusion, PTI is now working to balance internal coordination while ensuring that the rally proceeds smoothly. Whether Mahmood Achakzai attends or not may also signal how strong internal ties remain within the party in the coming days.
