Qatar has upgraded the licensing status of medical qualifications awarded by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), marking an important milestone for Pakistani doctors seeking to work in the Gulf state.
The development was highlighted by the Pakistan Embassy in Qatar, which said the decision will make it easier for CPSP-qualified doctors to practice in the country.
Under the new policy, CPSP fellowships have been moved to a higher and preferred category within Qatar’s medical licensing system. This means Pakistani doctors who hold CPSP First and Second Fellowships will now enjoy faster and simpler licensing procedures.
One of the most important changes is that eligible CPSP-qualified physicians will be exempt from the Prometric exam, a step that reflects Qatar’s confidence in the quality and standards of CPSP training.
According to officials, the decision came after a comprehensive evaluation of CPSP’s education and clinical training programs.
Qatar’s authorities have formally accepted these qualifications for medical practice which is expected to significantly improve the employability and professional mobility of Pakistani doctors.
The move is also seen as a boost to the international standing of CPSP, as its qualifications have now been included in Qatar’s list of accredited medical credentials.
This recognition will help Pakistani specialists find more opportunities not only in Qatar but across the wider Gulf region.
At the same time, the policy upgrade supports Qatar’s growing healthcare needs by allowing it to benefit from a skilled and trusted Pakistani medical workforce.
