Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has expressed deep grief over the martyrdom of prominent religious scholar and former JUI lawmaker Maulana Idris Tarangzai.
In a message shared on his official Facebook page, Afridi said the news of Maulana Idris being martyred in a cowardly attack was heartbreaking. He prayed that Allah accepts the martyrdom, raises his ranks, and grants patience to the bereaved family.
Moreover, Afridi said Maulana Idris was a shining symbol of knowledge and piety who will always be remembered. He also voiced hope that those responsible for the attack will be brought before the law without delay.
Attack in Charsadda Sparks Investigation and Security Response
Meanwhile, the tragic incident took place on Tuesday morning in the Utmanzai area of Charsadda. Terrorists opened fire on the vehicle carrying Maulana Idris as he was traveling from his home to a madrassa.
At the time of the attack, the car also carried two police officers and a driver. The attackers fired from behind, killing Maulana Idris on the spot and seriously injuring the two police officers.
Following the attack, police and law enforcement agencies quickly cordoned off the area and began search operations. In addition, an FIR has been registered at the CTD police station in Mardan, and raids are underway to arrest those involved.
Authorities have assured that every effort is being made to ensure justice and to bring the attackers to their logical end.
