Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has announced his resignation from the provincial post, stating that the decision was made in accordance with the directive of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

In a statement, Gandapur said, “I am resigning from the office of Chief Minister on the instructions of our party founder. We will move forward together for his release and in line with the party’s policies.” He added that Sohail Afridi would have his full support and backing.

Earlier, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja confirmed the decision to remove Ali Amin Gandapur from his position as Chief Minister, citing the party leadership’s direction.

Speaking to the media, Raja stated, “Yes, it is correct that Ali Amin Gandapur is being replaced as Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Sohail Afridi has been nominated as the new Chief Minister, and this is the founder’s decision, which has also been explained in context.”

He noted that the province was facing a severe wave of terrorism. “Today, our officers and soldiers were martyred in Orakzai. The KP government has been advised to distance itself from the federal government’s flawed policies,” he said.

Sohail Afridi Nominated as New KP Chief Minister

Sohail Afridi, a member of the provincial assembly from PK-70 (Khyber district), has been nominated as the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Afridi previously served as Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Communication and Works and was later appointed Minister for Higher Education after a cabinet reshuffle.

Afridi has been an active PTI member for years, having served as President of the Insaf Students Federation (ISF) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He is also a member of the PTI Central Executive Committee and was elected as an MPA for the first time during the 2024 general elections.

Afridi’s Earlier Response to Rumors

Earlier, Sohail Afridi had dismissed social media reports claiming that he was being appointed as Chief Minister, calling them “false, baseless, and misleading.”

In a statement, he clarified, “All reports attributed to me are untrue and contrary to facts. The claims about any change in the Chief Minister’s position are entirely baseless.”

However, with Gandapur’s formal resignation and confirmation from the PTI leadership, Afridi now appears set to assume charge as the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
