TORKHAM- MARCH,31- The key border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan at Torkham has been reopened to facilitate the return of Afghan refugees. According to Qureshi Badloon, Director of Information and Culture under the Taliban administration in Nangarhar, Pakistani authorities decided to reopen the border to ease the process and support the repatriation of Afghan refugees.

It is worth noting that the Torkham border was briefly opened last Thursday for the same purpose but was subsequently closed again. The latest development is being seen as a positive sign of easing tensions between the two countries, which have persisted for some time. This important crossing point along the Pak-Afghan border had remained closed for all types of movement for the past three months due to diplomatic and border disputes, as well as security concerns between the Taliban and Pakistan.

The closure of the border had caused significant difficulties for thousands of Afghan families and had also disrupted trade activities. Observers say that reopening the border for refugees is an important humanitarian step; however, for a sustainable solution, continuous dialogue and confidence-building measures between the two countries are essential to prevent repeated closures in the future.
