WHITE HOUSE_ According to HTN sources, New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani met US President Donald Trump at the Oval Office on Friday, November 21. The two exchanged a handshake and described the discussion as “productive.”

Trump reaffirmed his support for building a “strong and highly secure New York,” while Mamdani raised affordability concerns, highlighting rising housing costs and the crisis affecting more than 100,000 homeless NYC students. Mamdani thanked the president and expressed his readiness to cooperate on affordability initiatives.

Mamdani’s Stance on Israeli Policies

Sources confirmed that Mamdani reiterated his claim that the Israeli government is “carrying out genocide” and criticized U.S. funding for Israeli military operations. He clarified that his comments were directed at Israeli leadership and U.S. policy, not at Americans. While acknowledging ongoing peace efforts, Mamdani emphasized the importance of upholding international human rights. Trump, however, did not respond to the genocide accusation during the meeting.

Addressing Past Political Differences

When questioned about Mamdani previously calling him a “fascist,” Trump dismissed the remark, saying, “It’s fine… You can say it. I don’t mind.” Despite clear political differences, both sides signaled a willingness to work together for the benefit of New Yorkers.

Some politicians and commentators were discombobulated by the televised friendliness. At least a couple Republicans said they still did not trust Mamdani, Trump’s new approval notwithstanding.

“What the heck just happened?” US Representative Rashida Tlaib, a Democrat from Michigan, wrote on social media, sharing a clip of one of the meeting’s Trump-Mamdani buddy moments.

  • Trump and Mamdani focused on shared goals such as city security and housing affordability.
