Islamabad, 26 May 2025 — The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee will gather in Islamabad tomorrow for Zilhaj moon sighting, according to state-run broadcaster Radio Pakistan. This meeting will decide the date for Eidul Azha, one of the most important Islamic festivals.

Suparco Predicts Eidul Azha Date Based on Astronomical Data

The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has already predicted the likely date of Eidul Azha based on astronomical data. Suparco used scientific analysis and modern observation techniques to forecast the crescent moon’s birth on May 27. According to their calculations, Pakistan will likely celebrate Eidul Azha on June 7, subject to moon sighting confirmation.

Chairman Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad will lead the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee meeting. Zonal committees will also hold sessions at their respective headquarters across the country to collect moon sighting reports.

Eidul Azha, observed on the 10th of Zilhaj, honors the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in submission to Allah’s command. The festival also coincides with the completion of Haj, the sacred pilgrimage to Makkah and one of the five pillars of Islam.

People across Pakistan have started preparations for Eidul Azha as they wait for the official moon sighting announcement. The Ruet-i-Hilal Committee’s decision will confirm the exact date of the celebration and shape the country’s festive schedule.

Authorities will announce the Zilhaj moon sighting decision after gathering and verifying reports from across the nation. As the public anticipates the outcome, the moon sighting process remains a key event that guides the Islamic calendar and national festivities.
