News Desk – 02 May 2025: WhatsApp Web voice calling is set to become a reality as beta updates reveal upcoming support for voice and video calls via browsers.
The feature will allow users to make and receive calls through Chrome, Safari, and Edge, removing the need to install WhatsApp’s desktop app. This development addresses a long-standing limitation. Currently, users must switch devices or download desktop software to access calling features.
By enabling WhatsApp Web voice calling, Meta aims to enhance communication flexibility for its global user base. This browser-based calling upgrade offers added convenience for remote workers, students, and users who rely heavily on the web platform.
While the rollout timeline remains undisclosed, early beta testing indicates that the new feature will mirror the mobile app’s call interface. Alongside this update, WhatsApp recently introduced ‘Advanced Chat Privacy’—a tool to tighten control over chat content and security.
This new privacy layer includes features that block chat history exports outside WhatsApp. It also prevent automatic media saving in recipients’ galleries and disable Meta AI tools within private and group conversations
The dual release strategy reflects WhatsApp’s broader focus on security and usability enhancements across platforms. The addition of browser-based calling could significantly reduce app dependency and encourage broader platform adoption.
