ISLAMABAD, Thursday – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace during a telephonic conversation with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev. He raised concerns over Pak-India ceasefire on recent provocative statements from Indian leadership and asserted that Pakistan would firmly defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of any future aggression.

During the call, PM Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s decision to uphold the Pak-India ceasefire agreement, stating it was made in the interest of maintaining stability in the region. He praised President Aliyev’s unwavering support for Pakistan during the recent crisis and thanked him for backing Pakistan’s stance.

“President Aliyev’s consistent support shows his deep affection for the people of Pakistan,” PM Shehbaz said. He also emphasized that the Kashmir dispute remains the core issue behind instability in South Asia and called for its resolution in line with UN Security Council resolutions.

President Aliyev congratulated Pakistan on its diplomatic success and welcomed the ceasefire understanding. He applauded Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to promote peace in the region and expressed Azerbaijan’s desire to strengthen bilateral ties.

PM Shehbaz also noted progress on proposed Azerbaijani investments worth \$2 billion in multiple sectors across Pakistan. He renewed an invitation for President Aliyev to visit Pakistan, which the Azerbaijani leader accepted.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cooperation in all fields and strengthening the Pakistan-Azerbaijan partnership.

The conversation marked a joint commitment to peace and regional stability, with the Pak-India ceasefire serving as a critical backdrop to their shared diplomatic goals.
