New Delhi | July 28, 2025 – The Iranian Embassy in India has issued a sharp rebuke to sections of the Indian media, accusing them of spreading “fake and fabricated news” that disrespects Iran and its leadership. The press statement, released through the Embassy’s official channel, warned that such reports threaten media credibility and trust among the public.
The Embassy noted that certain well-known Indian news outlets have recently published baseless claims regarding Iran. Without naming specific platforms, the statement highlighted that these actions not only insult Iran’s leadership but also diminish the professional reputation of the media itself.
Freedom of Expression With Responsibility
While acknowledging the importance of press freedom and the public’s right to information, the Embassy emphasized that responsible journalism is essential. “Indian media should rely on credible and impartial sources,” the statement said, adding that sensationalist reporting damages professional ethics and bilateral relations.
The Embassy further urged Indian journalists and editors to exercise caution, especially when covering sensitive geopolitical issues. It noted that disinformation can serve the agendas of external actors and lead to diplomatic misunderstandings.
Iran’s Military Operations Recalled
In a pointed reference, the statement recalled the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution’s role as Commander-in-Chief during Iran’s recent twelve-day confrontation with the Zionist regime. It described the episode as a “decisive act of self-defence” and a major defeat for the adversary.
The Embassy underscored that such historic events should be reported with care and accuracy. It reiterated that external propaganda should not influence Indian media narratives and called for the preservation of historical ties between Iran and India—two ancient civilizations with longstanding relations.
As misinformation becomes a growing global challenge, the Embassy’s message serves as a reminder of the responsibility that comes with press freedom. In closing, the statement stressed the importance of restoring media credibility through fact-based, respectful, and balanced reporting.
