Cross-Border Threats Prompt Major Military Operation in Pakistan

Pakistan’s armed forces have launched a large-scale military campaign to eliminate cross-border threats originating from Afghan territory. The operation, named “Sar Bakaf,” began after credible intelligence confirmed the presence and movement of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants near the border.

Helicopters arrived in Bajaur early in the morning as the operation commenced. Authorities have since imposed a three-day curfew across the district to ensure the safety of civilians and secure operational movement.

Airstrikes Target Militant Strongholds

According to security officials, military helicopters carried out targeted strikes on known militant hideouts. So far, 15 militants have been confirmed dead, including a senior TTP commander, Ilyas alias Malang Bacha. Several others were injured. The gunships also destroyed compounds in Kohat, Hangu, Orakzai, and Lower Kurram.

Regional Police Officer Abbas Majid Marwat stated that some militants attempted to flee into nearby mountains. However, ground forces intercepted several escape routes. “This operation marks a key milestone in our ongoing fight against militancy,” he said.

More than 200 military and police personnel are participating in the campaign. Security forces are also combing through difficult terrain in Chirpiri, Kandao, Shina Wari, Zargari, and Naryab for remaining insurgents.

Security, Sovereignty, and Regional Implications

The operation follows a surge in attacks on security forces. Just last week, eight paramilitary personnel were martyred and eleven injured in a militant ambush in Orakzai. Officials believe the assailants received outside support and operated with heavy weaponry.

In a sharp statement, the Pakistani government blamed India for supporting terror proxies to destabilize the region. It also urged Afghanistan to take responsibility and prevent militant use of its soil for cross-border attacks.

Pakistan insists that any peace in the region hinges on strict action against these networks. “Our sovereignty is not negotiable,” said a senior security official. He added that international stakeholders must take note of the evolving threats.

Meanwhile, the military continues to monitor developments closely. More phases of the operation are expected in the coming days to ensure complete neutralization of hostile elements.
