Islamabad – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially declared the restoration of its flagship route in a significant development for the national aviation industry.
The national flag carrier will resume the direct London flights between Islamabad and London Heathrow on March 29, 2026.
It will have four flights each week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays using the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.
The move brings about the end of a six-year break and provides a more convenient way to travel to thousands of families and business travelers who depend on this most important tie.

Overcoming a Challenging Era
The revival follows a tough few years with the airline, and the crisis started at the outset of 2020, just after a tragic crash and a following scandal related to the pilot’s license.
The events resulted in the suspension of the European Union and the United Kingdom. Nevertheless, following thorough safety audits and reforms, the EU lifted its ban in late 2024 and the UK in July 2025.
Direct London flights are regarded as an official seal of approval on the enhanced safety of PIA.
Officials of the airline observed that this comeback was the first international destination of PIA in the history of the company, and the approach was emotional and symbolic to the company and its employees.
New Ownership and Modern Service
This comes after the recent privatization of the airline. The carrier is also undergoing a major transformation under a new management that includes a consortium headed by businessman Arif Habib.
The new owners have declared that direct London flights would involve service improvements and a new emphasis on passenger comfort.
Although the airline will retain its already legendary name and classical hospitality, its mission is to modernize its fleet and increase employment in the aviation sector.
At present, the airline is already flying three weekly flights to Manchester and is in the process of extending the flights to include Birmingham in the months to come.

A Brighter Future for Travelers
The Pakistani diaspora in the UK has been relieved that the national carrier is back at Heathrow Terminal 4. Direct travel saves a lot of fatigue caused by long distances, particularly for senior travelers and those who have young children.
The reinstatement of the direct London flights will enable the airline to recover its market share and win confidence among its global customers.
With the March 2026 launch date approaching, the airline is soon ready to demonstrate a new era of professionalism and reliability and aims to recover its position among the top carriers in the South Asian airline industry.
