Pakistan and the United States are enjoying the strongest phase of bilateral relations in their history, according to Andy Halus, Minister Counselor for Public Diplomacy at the United States Embassy in Pakistan. Speaking in an interview with We News, the senior diplomat highlighted deep political trust, expanding economic cooperation, and strong people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Andy Halus emphasized that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, President Donald Trump, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif share warm and friendly relations. He noted that President Donald Trump has repeatedly praised Pakistan’s leadership, reflecting growing mutual respect and strategic alignment between Islamabad and Washington.
Strong Leadership Ties Drive Pakistan–United States Partnership
Andy Halus stated that Pakistan and the United States currently maintain the highest level of diplomatic engagement ever recorded. He described Pakistan as a welcoming nation, saying hospitality is the country’s true national sport and Pakistanis treat guests with sincerity, warmth, and respect.
Highlighting cultural connections, he praised Pakistan’s vibrant music scene and noted that Coca-Cola, an American company, promotes Pakistani culture through initiatives such as Coke Studio. He also described biryani, especially Karachi’s biryani, as the most loved Pakistani dish.
On economic cooperation, Halus revealed that with support from the Export-Import Bank of the United States, several billion dollars will be invested in Pakistan’s Reko Diq mineral project. He added that American companies are increasingly interested in Pakistan’s mining and minerals sector.
Background: Education Shaped Longstanding Bilateral Cooperation
In the past, education remained a cornerstone of Pakistan–United States relations. The Fulbright Program in Pakistan completed seventy-five years, enabling more than nine thousand Pakistani students to study at leading universities in the United States.
Previously, the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan expanded its outreach by establishing a new building in Islamabad’s H-8 sector, offering free educational and professional guidance. Exchange initiatives such as the International Visitor Leadership Program had also provided Pakistani professionals with valuable policy exposure and training.
These long-term efforts laid the foundation for today’s strong diplomatic, educational, and economic partnership.
