Iran has warned that any US military attack would trigger a broad regional response, including strikes against Israel and American military bases across the Middle East, as nationwide protests continue to challenge the country’s leadership.
Speaking in parliament, Iran’s Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said that any strike on Iranian territory would be met with force, calling Israel and US bases in the region “legitimate targets” in the event of military intervention.
His remarks reflect a sharp rise in tensions at a time when unrest has spread across several Iranian cities.
The warning comes after US President Donald Trump repeatedly criticized Tehran’s handling of the protests and said on Saturday that the United States stood “ready to help” the Iranian people.
Trump has also cautioned Iran’s leadership against using force against demonstrators, saying Washington would respond if protesters were targeted.
Israeli officials said the country has raised its state of alert amid fears that any US involvement could widen the conflict.
Sources familiar with security discussions said Israel is closely monitoring developments but has not announced any plans to intervene.
