German media, citing ARD research, report that the Taliban have recalled 13 diplomats who were sent to Germany prior to their return to power in 2021, leaving only three diplomats currently in place.

The report adds that the Taliban are attempting to send additional diplomats to Germany, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs intends to replace the current chargé d’affaires. Despite these efforts, the Taliban remain largely unrecognized internationally, reflecting their ongoing diplomatic isolation.

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not commented on the matter so far. Analysts say that the Taliban’s limited legitimacy and ties to extremist and jihadist organizations continue to undermine their credibility abroad and create growing concern among host countries.
These developments highlight the Taliban’s persistent struggle to gain legitimacy and the negative perception of their governance on the international stage.
