Taliban authorities have released a women’s taekwondo coach who was detained in Herat earlier this month, according to a spokesperson for the Taliban Supreme Court.

The woman, identified as Khadija Ahmadzada, 22, was arrested by the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (MoPVPV) for alleged violations of ministry regulations. She spent 13 days in detention before being released on Thursday.

Earlier reports said Khadija was detained for conducting secret taekwondo training sessions for girls, an activity banned under current Taliban restrictions on women’s sports and education.

No further details were provided regarding formal charges or conditions of her release.
