Afghan media outlet Tolo News has recently come under scrutiny for airing statements that analysts say promote violence and undermine regional stability.
During separate broadcasts, Afghan analyst Hamidullah Hotak criticized Pakistan’s legal system as un-Islamic, called on citizens to take up arms against the state, and praised attacks carried out by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). Observers note that such remarks underscore Afghanistan’s permissive environment for extremist messaging, where calls for cross-border violence are aired publicly without accountability.
In another segment, Afghan journalist Fazlur Rehman Oryakhel explicitly urged an armed struggle against Pakistan, seeking foreign support for groups opposing the state. He also endorsed separatist movements in Balochistan, Sindh, and Gilgit, rhetoric experts warn is designed to inflame tensions, encourage unrest, and export extremist agendas from Afghan territory.
Pakistan officials have expressed concern over these broadcasts, emphasizing that media platforms must not be used to incite violence or encourage terrorist activities. Analysts warn that unchecked extremist messaging could escalate cross-border tensions, jeopardize regional security, and threaten civilian lives.
The broadcasts highlight ongoing challenges in the region, where extremist groups exploit both local and international platforms to propagate ideology, recruit supporters, and attempt to destabilize neighboring countries.
