Iranian state media has confirmed that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in large scale strikes carried out by the United States and Israel. The announcement follows hours of uncertainty after former US President Donald Trump claimed that Khamenei had been targeted and killed during the attacks. According to Iranian officials, the strikes were part of a coordinated operation that hit several leadership and military sites across the country.
Meanwhile, security sources told international media that around 40 senior Iranian officials were killed in the strikes, including key military and intelligence figures. Israel has separately stated that it eliminated at least seven high ranking Iranian officials during the operation. Iranian authorities say more than 200 people have been killed nationwide so far, according to the Red Crescent.
Iranian officials reported that a girls school was hit during the strikes, killing at least 108 people. This claim has intensified public anger inside Iran and prompted calls for strong retaliation. As tensions rose, Iran launched missile attacks across the region, with reports of explosions in Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, and Kuwait, all areas hosting US bases or allied forces.
Following the attacks, Trump said bombing would continue and described the moment as a chance for Iranians to reclaim their country. However, no independent verification has confirmed the full extent of the damage or leadership losses.
