In Afghanistan, women are mobilizing against the oppressive laws and restrictions imposed on them. Ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, videos emerged showing women in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, engaging in wall chalkings advocating for women’s freedom and protesting against the Taliban.
In a related development, members of the Afghan women’s organization “Jumhish-e-Tahavol-e-Tarikhi-e-Zanan-e-Afghanistan” organized a protest rally in Kabul, chanting slogans against the Taliban. Meanwhile, another women’s group, “Empowered Women Movement (Jumhish Zanan-e-Moqtedar)”, painted slogans on the walls of Mazar-i-Sharif condemning the Taliban’s anti-women policies.
These actions were carried out in connection with International Women’s Day (March 8), emphasizing the continuation of the struggle and resistance against Taliban restrictions.
This event has been verified through recent reports and videos/images shared on social media platforms, highlighting the courageous actions of Afghan women in defiance of the Taliban’s strict regulations. Such protests remain dangerous in Afghanistan, yet women continue to raise their voices. This growing activism reflects a broader societal pushback, signaling that despite repression, voices for freedom and rights are emerging within Afghan society.
