The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has declared a viral video claiming to show an attack on Pakistani forces in South Waziristan as fake. The video had been widely shared on social media and was presented as footage from Pakistan’s tribal region.
According to officials, the clip was first circulated by an X account linked to the Afghan Taliban. The account claimed the video showed a strike against Pakistani forces in South Waziristan. However, a fact check later revealed that the footage had nothing to do with Pakistan.
Instead, officials found that the video actually originated from the Kurdistan region of Iraq. It was falsely labelled and shared online to create the impression that it showed a real attack inside Pakistan.
Furthermore, authorities said the same video had previously been shared by a propaganda account connected to Indian intelligence networks. Officials believe this indicates an effort by hostile online networks to spread misleading information and create confusion.
Soon after social media users began pointing out the real source of the video, the Taliban-linked account quietly deleted the post. However, by that time the video had already circulated widely on different platforms.
The Ministry of Information said the incident shows how easily unrelated foreign footage can be used to create false stories about security situations in the region. Officials warned that such misinformation campaigns can mislead the public and damage trust.
Therefore, authorities have urged people to verify information before sharing it online. They also encouraged social media users to rely on verified sources to avoid spreading false narratives about the Pakistan-Afghanistan border situation.
