The President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, is beginning a two-day official visit to Uzbekistan today at the invitation of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The visit, taking place on March 26 and 27, is being described as highly significant for strengthening regional politics in Central Asia and consolidating bilateral relations.
Historic First Meeting of the Council
According to reports, the most important development of the visit will be the inaugural session of the “Supreme Inter-State Council,” which will be jointly chaired by the leaders of both countries. The establishment of this council marks a major step toward transforming the strategic partnership between the two states into a higher-level alliance.
Cooperation and Strategic Agenda
The agenda of the talks includes further deepening friendship and good-neighbourly relations as well as strengthening political dialogue. Both leaders are expected to discuss expanding cooperation in trade, economy, and international relations. Special attention will be given to industrial cooperation, improving transport connectivity, and critical issues such as water and energy security.
Signing of Key Agreements
Beyond diplomatic discussions, practical steps are also expected during the visit. Sources say several new joint projects will be launched, and important agreements will be signed to strengthen the legal framework of bilateral cooperation. These initiatives are expected to support economic stability and create employment opportunities in the region.
Coordination on Global Issues
The meeting will also cover international and regional developments in addition to bilateral matters. Both presidents are expected to agree on enhancing cooperation in multilateral forums and adopting joint strategies to address regional challenges. Cultural and people-to-people exchanges will also be strengthened to further deepen social ties between the two nations.
