DUBAI-APRIL,2- Fuel prices in the United Arab Emirates rose sharply in April, with petrol increasing by more than 30% and diesel climbing by nearly 72%, as the ongoing Middle East conflict continues to impact global energy supplies.

According to monthly rates announced by the UAE Fuel Price Committee, petrol prices for April were raised by 31–33%, with the highest-grade fuel now priced at 3.39 AED ($0.92) per litre. Diesel, widely used in transport and logistics sectors, rose to 4.69 AED ($1.28) per litre.

The price hike comes one month into the regional conflict, which has significantly affected energy markets and shipping routes across the Gulf.

Reports indicate that Iran, located near the UAE across the Strait of Hormuz, has carried out repeated drone and missile strikes on regional energy infrastructure since late February, raising concerns over supply security.

The Strait of Hormuz—through which around 20% of global oil shipments from the Gulf normally pass—has come under increasing pressure due to heightened security risks, contributing to a surge in global oil prices.

Fuel prices have also increased across other Gulf countries. In Kuwait, high-grade petrol rose by 12.5% in April, while Qatar recorded a 7.9% increase in standard gasoline prices.

Analysts say continued instability in the region could keep energy markets volatile, with further price fluctuations expected in the coming months.
