Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially launched the “Apna Ghar Scheme”, a major housing initiative aimed at helping low and middle income families build their own homes.

To begin with, the scheme offers loans of up to 10 million rupees on easy terms. The total size of the programme is 3.2 trillion rupees. It will be available across all provinces including Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

In addition, the Prime Minister said the scheme will be personally monitored every month. He also warned banks to follow rules strictly and ensure timely loan distribution.

The government has set an initial target of 50,000 houses. This will gradually increase to 500,000 houses over the next four years. According to the Prime Minister, providing shelter to citizens is a top national priority.

Fuel Subsidy Extended to Support Transport Sector

Meanwhile, the government has also decided to extend fuel subsidies for one more month. This support will continue for motorcycle users, public transport, and goods transport operators.

Furthermore, officials have been directed to prevent unnecessary fare increases in passenger and freight transport. The aim is to protect people from rising travel costs.

Currently, motorcycle users are receiving a subsidy of 100 rupees per litre on up to 20 litres of petrol. This relief measure is expected to ease financial pressure on daily commuters.

Finally, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also confirmed that the provincial subsidy for motorcycle owners will continue, providing further relief to the public during rising fuel prices.
