Ex-Afghan Police Commander’s Family Alleges Home Seizure and Forced Marriage Pressure in Balkh

Serious allegations of property seizure and forced marriage attempts have emerged from Balkh Province, where the family of a former senior police official has accused a local influential figure and a Taliban member of grave violations.

Family Claims Illegal Occupation of Property

The sister of Eshan Khalid, a former police commander who served during the early tenure of former Afghan President Hamid Karzai, has released a video statement claiming that their family has been forcibly displaced.

She alleged that a local armed figure identified as Akhtar Luchak unlawfully seized their family home and has refused to return it.

Allegations of Forced Marriage Pressure

The complainant further stated that the family was pressured to forcefully marry her to a Taliban member from the Chamtal district. She said she firmly rejected the proposal, after which the family faced increased intimidation and hardship.

Family Displacement and Appeals for Justice

According to the statement, the family is currently homeless due to the alleged property seizure and threats from influential individuals.

The family has appealed to international human rights organizations, stating that relatives of former government officials are being targeted in retaliatory and discriminatory actions.

Raising Broader Concerns

The allegations have once again highlighted ongoing concerns in Afghanistan regarding property disputes, coercion, and reported forced marriage cases involving vulnerable families and politically exposed individuals.
