Dhaka: The first day of the opening Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh ended with the home side in a strong position at the Sher e Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. By stumps, Bangladesh had scored 301 runs for the loss of four wickets in their first innings.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto led from the front with an impressive century. He played a confident innings of 101 runs from 130 balls and helped his team build a solid foundation.

Meanwhile, Mominul Haque narrowly missed out on a century. He scored 91 runs before getting out, falling just nine runs short of a well deserved hundred.

At the end of the day’s play, experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 48 runs and looked set to continue Bangladesh’s strong batting performance on the second day.

Pakistan Bowlers Struggle Without Injured Babar Azam

Pakistan’s bowling attack found it difficult to put pressure on the Bangladeshi batters during most parts of the day. Mohammad Abbas, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Nauman Ali each picked up one wicket, but they were unable to slow the scoring rate consistently.

In addition, Pakistan appeared to miss star batter Babar Azam, who is unavailable for the match because of a knee injury. His absence was felt both in team balance and overall confidence.

Looking ahead, the second and final Test match of the series will begin on May 16 in Sylhet. Pakistan will now hope for a stronger performance as they try to bounce back in the series.
