Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying that the delimitation process in the region was used for political gain. He said it was designed to benefit the BJP and its allies.
He made these remarks while speaking to reporters in Srinagar. According to him, the exercise has exposed the real political intentions of the party. He added that such actions have harmed the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In addition, Omar Abdullah said that the recent delimitation carried out ahead of the 2024 assembly elections was not fair. He claimed that constituencies were shaped in a way that gave the BJP an electoral advantage. As a result, public trust in the process has been affected.
Moving forward, he also referred to statements made by BJP leaders. He said these statements clearly show their desire to remain in power at any cost.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister accused opposition leaders of using pressure tactics for political gain. He referred to comments by Opposition Leader Sunil Kumar Sharma, suggesting that there was political desperation to secure the chief minister’s position.
In the same context, Abdullah alleged that the BJP was creating obstacles in the functioning of his government. He also said that efforts to restore statehood were being deliberately delayed.
Finally, he warned the public about political messaging around statehood restoration. According to him, people are being pressured with claims that governance and restoration depend on BJP rule. He said such narratives go against democratic principles and create unnecessary fear among citizens.
