The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has confirmed the receipt of approximately US$1.3 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under its Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF), following the completion of key programme reviews and approvals by the IMF Executive Board.

According to official details, the IMF Executive Board concluded the third review under Pakistan’s EFF arrangement during its meeting held on May 8, 2026. As part of this review, the Board approved the disbursement of SDR 760 million for Pakistan, marking another significant step in the ongoing IMF-supported reform programme.

In addition, the IMF Executive Board also approved the release of the second tranche under the RSF, amounting to SDR 154 million. This facility is aimed at supporting climate resilience, sustainable development initiatives, and strengthening Pakistan’s long-term economic stability.

Following these approvals, the State Bank of Pakistan received a combined total of SDR 914 million on May 12, 2026, which is equivalent to around US$1.3 billion.

The central bank stated that this inflow will be reflected in Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves for the week ending May 15, 2026, and is expected to provide support to the country’s external financial position.

Officials view the latest IMF disbursement as an important boost for Pakistan’s macroeconomic stability, particularly at a time when the country continues to manage external financing pressures and broader economic reforms under IMF supervision.
