Details show that on 16 October 2025, UN Special Rapporteurs issued a comprehensive report raising serious concerns over India’s actions deemed inconsistent with the spirit of the Indus Waters Treaty. India was given two months to respond, setting 16 December as the deadline; however, even after 155 days, no substantive reply has been submitted nor has any official public position been issued.
Analysts suggest that this prolonged silence reflects an ideological posture influenced by Hindutva-driven thinking, where domestic political considerations and assertive nationalism are prioritized over adherence to international law.
Observers warn that continued disregard for international agreements and deliberate distancing from global institutions poses a serious risk to regional stability and undermines the global rules-based order.
