Iran may seek nuclear weapons if attacked, warned a senior adviser to Ayatollah Khamenei after US threats of bombing.

Tehran – 25 April 2025: Iran may seek nuclear weapons if attacked, warned Ali Larijani, an adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. His comments followed threats by former US President Donald Trump.

Trump recently warned that Iran would face bombing and additional sanctions if it did not accept a new nuclear deal. In response, Iran submitted a complaint to the UN Security Council, calling Trump’s remarks “reckless and belligerent.”

Larijani told state television that Iran does not want nuclear weapons. However, he warned that Iran may seek nuclear weapons if attacked. “If the US or Israel bomb Iran, we’ll have no choice but to defend ourselves,” Larijani stated.

Ayatollah Khamenei also pledged retaliation. He said Iran will not submit to threats and will continue defending its sovereignty. Larijani emphasized that any aggression would trigger a policy shift in Tehran.

The situation arose after Trump said that Iran would be bombed without a deal. He also suggested imposing “secondary tariffs” on Tehran. These threats increased tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Iran called the threats unjustified. Tehran accused the US of promoting instability and warned that international laws must not be ignored. Khamenei said the Islamic Republic would not tolerate pressure or blackmail.

Iranian officials say any military provocation could destabilize the entire region. They warned that peace depends on mutual respect and fair diplomacy. Iran continues to deny that it seeks nuclear weapons.

However, Iranian leaders made it clear that national defense comes first. They signaled readiness to respond to any foreign attack decisively. Analysts expect diplomatic fallout to follow.
